Elias Gutierrez Wins His Second High Roller Title At The 2024 European Poker Tour Cyprus Festival

The top five live tournament scores on Elias Gutierrez’s poker resume have all come since that start of last October, with the two largest scores among them having both been recorded in the past week. Gutierrez took down a $25,000 buy-in event at the 2024 European Poker Tour Cyprus festival for a career-best $417,570 payday. Just five days removed from that win, the Spanish player came out on top in another high-stakes tournament at the same price point, adding another $390,200.

This pair of titles has added $807,770 in total prize money to Gutierrez’s lifetime haul, growing his total earnings to nearly $1.6 million in the process.

The first victory saw Gutierrez best a field of 57 entries, while the second topped out at 50 entries. Gutierrez secured 420 Card Player Player of the Year points for each one of the wins. With these two titles and another final-table finish under his belt, he is now sitting just outside the top 600 in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.

The $1,200,500 prize pool in the second event was paid out among the top seven finishers. Among those that cashed were recent World Series of Poker Europe main event champion Simone Andrian (7th – $63,000), recent $20,000 high roller champion of this series Ognyan Dimov (6th – $81,000), back-to-back EPT Barcelona €100,000 high roller champion Kayhan Mokri (5th – $102,000), and 2023 WSOP Paradise $25,000 high roller champion Samuel Mullur (4th – $132,100).

Gutierrez won a crucial all-in with A-4 besting the A-Q suited of Hassan Nashar, turning a wheel to eliminate Nashar in third place ($174,100) and take a healthy lead into heads-up play with Teun Mulder.

It didn’t take long for Gutierrez to convert his more than 4:1 chip lead heading into the final showdown into the title. In the final hand, Gutierrez limped from the button with JDiamond Suit6Heart Suit and Mulder checked with 5Spade Suit2Heart Suit. The flop came down JHeart Suit5Diamond Suit3Heart Suit and Mulder check-called a min-bet of 250,000 with his middle pair. The 4Club Suit turn saw Mulder lead out for a min-bet of his own and Gutierrez called. The 3Club Suit river prompted another Mulder check. Gutierrez bet enough with his top pair to put Mulder all-in and Mulder made the call. He was shown the winner by Gutierrez, which meant that he was knocked out as the runner-up. The $258,100 he earned grew the Dutch player’s career earnings to more than $8.7 million.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at the final table:

Place Player Earnings POY Points
1 Elias Gutierrez $390,200 420
2 Teun Mulder $258,100 350
