Five Players Win Big with the Florida Lottery


Several players have won huge prizes from scratch-off tickets in Florida. As of the time of this writing, the lottery has minted some 2,175 millionaires via scratchers alone.

White Springs Man Takes $1M Home

Edwin Scroggin, the first of the recent winners had decided to try out his luck on a $30 scratcher. This fateful decision soon provided the fortunate lottery enthusiast with the life-changing prize of $1 million.

The White Springs native bought the $30 Florida 300X THE CASH ticket at a local supermarket. Lottery officials clarified that the ticket was purchased from a Winn-Dixie on South Marion Street in Lake City. The shop received a $2,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Scroggin visited the lottery headquarters in Gainesville to claim his prize, opting to take a lump-sum payment of $695,500. He didn’t disclose his plans for the prize.

Apollo Beach Player Secures $2M Prize

On October 21, the lottery also announced that another player, James Muckenthaler, of Apollo Beach, won $2 million from a 100X THE CASH scratcher. Just like Scroggin, Muckenthaler opted for the lump-sum option, taking home some $1,280,000.

The winning ticket, for context, was sold at a 7-Eleven, located at 13220 US Highway 301 South in Riverview. Lottery officials added that the retailer has received a bonus of $4,000 for selling the ticket.

Alabama Man Scoops Up $2M from Florida Lottery

A day later, the Florida lottery also announced that Jeremy Smith, a man from Alabama, claimed a $2 million prize from the TRIPLE 777 Scratch-Off. Following the suit of the other players, he selected the lump-cash option, receiving $1,280,000.

His winning ticket was bought from the CEFCO Convenience Store located at 5330 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze. The shop was given $4,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Summer Field Player Claims $1M

On the same day, lottery officials announced that Hubert Wilkerson, of Summer Field, claimed a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off game. The 64-year-old visited the lottery HQ to claim his prize and chose the one-time lump-sum option. As a result, he took $640,000.

Officials noted that Wilkerson purchased his winning ticket from Publix, located at 8780 South East 165th Mulberry Lane in The Villages. The shop received a $2,000 bonus commission.

Kissimmee Man Grabs $1M

Earlier today, the Florida Lottery announced that Larry Hamilton, of Kissimmee, successfully claimed a $1 million prize from the lottery HQ in Tallahassee. The player won the prize from a 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off ticket he purchased from KK Food Mart, located at 4275 New Tampa Highway in Lakeland.

Similarly to other players, Hamilton selected the lump-sum payment of $640,000. The shop, on the other hand, received a $2,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Scratch-off games, for context, are very popular in Florida and are an important part of the local lottery ecosystem, comprising approximately 74% of all lottery sales. Since the launch of scratchers, the vertical has raised almost $20 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
