Ahead of the Presidential Elections in the United States, one election worker was reportedly attacked in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Police Is Investigating the Incident
The case in question involves a woman identified with the initials B.L., who, while waiting for her bus was attacked by an unknown assailant, KLAS reports. The violent attack is currently under investigation by the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office, Clark County and the Las Vegas Metro Police.
Amid cases of such attacks, a law was passed that recognized the threat, intimidation or attack against an election worker as a felony. Prior to the elections this year, the US Department of Justice encouraged everyone who knows of, suspects or has witnessed any threat, intimidation or attacks against election workers to file a report. In cases of imminent danger of harm or risk, such as the latest one, victims or witnesses are encouraged to call 911 or local police authorities immediately.
While the latest case is under investigation, if charged and found guilty, the suspected culprit may face tough penalties, considering the felony charges related to threatening, intimidation or attacks against election workers. Still, prior to the completion of an investigation and a court’s decision, everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
A Violent Attack
The attack dates back to late last month. At the time, while B.L. was waiting for her bus on Eastern Avenue, an unknown male approached her. The man initially engaged in small talk asking when the bus would be arriving but at some point, started to talk about politics.
The woman recalled: “He was like, ‘So did you see the podcast with Joe Rogan and Donald Trump?’ I was like, ‘Nope, I’m not interested.’” Then, the election worker said that she doesn’t talk about politics even at work. “It’s not something that we discuss,” said B.L.
While the woman asked the man to leave her alone several times, at some point, he attacked her. The victim recalled that she was “chest bumped” by the man and also suffered from several punches, some even to her face. At some point, the victim was on the ground and the attacker stepped on her knee.
Around that time, a bus arrived, and the unknown attacker fled the scene. The victim immediately called 911 and reported the attack. With Las Vegas Metro Police responding to the accident, the victim was later told that the attacker also called 911 and claimed that in fact, he was the victim. Not unexpectedly, the woman rejected those claims.
It is unclear if the attacker will face charges at this point. An investigation into the attack is ongoing.
