In March, Cathy Judd-Stein, the chair of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), the gambling regulator in the state, announced her plans to step down from her role. This is when Gov. Maura Healey appointed Jordan Maynard to the key role of interim chair. Now, the executive was officially named chair of the Commission, the Governor announced Monday.
Maynard brings solid experience in the gaming sector, in combination with knowledge and skills on policies and legal matters. He initially joined the MGC in July 2022 when he was appointed to the role of treasurer. Besides Maynard’s appointment to the chair role at the gambling regulator, Gov. Healey confirmed the appointment of former Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur to the role of commissioner. Thanks to this key appointment, Brodeur filled the final vacant seat of the MGC.
The New Chair, Humbled and Grateful
Maynard revealed that he is both humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to serve as chairman of the Commission. He spoke about the important work of the MGC, revealing that ever since he joined the Commission and throughout his time as interim chair, he has been “consistently impressed with the level of integrity and leadership” demonstrated by his fellow commission members and workforce.
MGC’s new chair said that Brodeur makes a fine addition to the expert team at the Commission. Finally, he predicted that the new commissioner would play a key role by continuing “his service to the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

Brodeur Is Delighted to Fill in the Role of Commissioner
The former Mayor Brodeur was similarly thrilled and explained: “I have great respect for the important work that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission does to oversee and support this industry that is critical for our economy, workforce and competitiveness.” He thanked Gov. Healey for the trust in him and predicted that he would successfully collaborate with chair Maynard and the rest of the staff at the Commission.
On the other hand, Gov. Healey spoke about the exceptional leadership demonstrated by Maynard while he was holding the role of interim chair. She also outlined his dedication to delivering what’s best for the Commonwealth of the state.
Healey acknowledged that Brodeur is a trusted leader and pointed to the success he has achieved while in office by effectively collaborating with communities and elected officials. Finally, the Governor said that it would be thrilling to see the former Melrose Mayor play an important role in the MGC’s work as commissioner.
