Another popular off-strip hotel and casino decided to charge for its parking spaces. This is the case for Oyo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the latest operator to remove free parking options close to the Strip.
Parking Charges Implemented at Oyo
As confirmed in local media reports, Oyo Hotel and Casino implemented the change as of last week. Visitors to the off-Strip casino were invited to use an application to pay for their parking. Scanning a QR code at the entrance of the self-parking would bring up an app called Metropolis.
Reportedly, the rates for the first three hours are $8.99, which breaks down to a $0.99 service fee and $8 for parking. However, some media reports suggested that the cost for up to three hours is $13.
In case visitors spend longer at the parking, they have an option to pay for 24 hours, with the rates starting at $18 without the service fee. This means that if a visitor parks his car at Oyo Hotel and Casino for seven days, they would be looking at paying nearly $150.
Fewer Free Parking Spaces on the Las Vegas Strip
While many Sin City visitors previously benefitted from free parking, this is no longer the case, especially for recognizable hotel and casino properties on the Strip. The transition from free to payable parking started nearly a decade ago.
MGM Resorts, the recognizable hospitality and gaming company was the first to introduce paid parking at some of its recognizable properties. It wasn’t long after when Caesars too decided to charge for parking, implementing fees to visitors at Harrah’s Horseshoe, Caesars Palace and LINQ back in 2021.
Still, Las Vegas residents can benefit from free parking if they can present a driver’s license issued in Nevada. However, the parking would be limited to three hours. That is still one benefit applicable to the locals that guests and visitors cannot access.
Oyo Hotel and Casino was among the last venues to offer free parking to Las Vegas guests. Now, the only properties that still offer free parking to visitors are Circus Circus, Treasure Island, Casino Royale as well as Sahara. On the bright side, some hotel and casinos offer free parking up to three hours to visitors or special deals with free parking applicable to hotel guests.
