It has now been close to a month since the last time a lucky player scored a jackpot from Powerball, America’s popular lottery game. After one Georgia player made history by scooping the $478 million grand prize late in October, the largest lottery win in the state’s history, the game hasn’t produced another winner.
The Lottery Game’s Jackpot Is Getting Closer to $200M
The game’s recent drawing on Wednesday was no exception. Regretfully, no lottery player was able to match all drawn numbers, white balls 16, 30, 60, 62, 64 along with the red Powerball number 25. At the time, the grand prize was an estimated $155 million, while the cash option was $71.4 million.
The jackpot’s survival on Wednesday now enables the grand prize to continue growing, reaching a sum closer to $200 million. According to Powerball, an estimated $171 million will be up for grabs on the game’s next drawing, scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024.
On the next drawing, the cash value of the jackpot is an estimated $78.7 million. While that’s about $100 million less than the full prize, the cash sum can be instantly collected whereas the full $171 million jackpot can only be collected via annual installments. This is why the lump cash sum option is preferred by most jackpot winners.
Similarly to Powerball, the jackpot from Mega Millions also survived the game’s latest draw on Tuesday. This enabled the grand prize to hit an estimated $453 million for the upcoming drawing on Friday, November 22.
Five Players Win $50K Each
Not only did the Powerball jackpot survive on Wednesday, but no lottery player was lucky enough to collect a million-dollar prize. A tier-two win for matching five white balls would’ve granted a $1 million prize or a $2 million Power Play prize.
On the bright side, five players scored $50,000 prizes each after matching four white balls along with the red Powerball number. Another 159 players matched correctly four white balls for a $100 prize each, while 58 collected a $300 Power Play prize each.
