Hurricane Milton Disrupts the Business of Casinos, Poker Rooms in Florida

[ad_1]

Amid the approaching Hurricane Milton, businesses in Florida are experiencing disruptions and closures, particularly in areas where the hurricane is expected to go through such as Tampa Bay, Melbourne and Orlando. The hurricane resulted in the closing of schools, colleges as well as roads and airports.

The casino sector would suffer a financial hit from the hurricane, provided that there’s less travel, while some casinos and poker rooms reaffirmed their intention to close if necessary. What’s more, Hurricane Milton arrived not even a month after Hurricane Helene impacted parts of Florida last month.

Casinos Prepared to Temporarily Close Due to the Hurricane

There are a total of seven casinos across Florida operated by Native American Tribes. Six of the venues are owned by the Seminole Tribe, while the Miccosukee Tribe owns one casino in Miami. Considering the approaching Hurricane Milton, casinos that are in the path of the hurricane have implemented safety measures. Alternatively, they are also prepared to temporarily halt operations, amid the rising danger of the hurricane.

Located in South Florida, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood remains open for the moment. However, the casino dedicated a web page to updates related to Hurricane Milton, vowing to release such if necessary. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino confirmed that the safety and well-being of all of its employees and guests is a top priority. “Please check back frequently for any changes or cancellations. We will provide real-time updates as the situation evolves,” the casino wrote.

The safety of our guests and Team Members is our top priority. As we actively monitor Hurricane Milton, we want to keep you informed of any changes to our services and operations,

Poker Rooms Are Also Affected by Hurricane Milton

Besides casinos, the incoming hurricane may also disrupt the operations of poker rooms as well. Racebook and TGT Poker, located in Tampa, temporarily closed their doors because of Hurricane Milton. On the other hand, Win! Derby poker room also confirmed its doors would temporarily shut. The venue wrote on Instagram that it “will remain closed until Hurricane Milton safely clears our area.”

Hurricane Milton is the ninth hurricane from the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. As announced by NOAA, the hurricane “rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, October 7, 2024.” In light of the expectation for Hurricane Milton to make landfall across parts of Florida, warnings are issued. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that the hurricane has “the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida.”
