Shavkat Rakhmonov was originally meant to fight against reigning UFC Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad for the title, but he withdrew. Ian Machado Garry stepped in to save the day and possibly put himself on the radar.
If he beats Rakhmonov, he’ll probably get a shot at the title. So, can he pull it off? Judging by the UFC 310 odds, the answer is no. He’s seen as a +285 underdog.

Why Is Shavkat Rakhmonov Such a Strong Favorite?
Shavkat Rakhmonov is 18-0 overall, with all of his wins happening by a finish – 8 by KO/TKO and 10 by submission.
Since moving to the UFC four years ago, he’s defeated six pretty tough opponents. However, only one of those was in the Top 10 in the Welterweight Rankings at the time of the fight.
The man in question is Stephen Thompson, whom Rakhmonov beat by a TKO in December 2023, when “Wonderboy” was already 40. Does all this mean Ian Machado Garry stands a chance against this guy?
Can Ian Machado Garry Upset the Odds?
Ian Machado Garry is 15-0 with 7 wins by KO/TKO, 7 by decision, and just 1 by submission. He’s a pretty decent wrestler with a black belt in judo, but grappling isn’t his focus. He mostly uses his grappling skills for defense, while his strongest offensive weapon is striking.
This is no surprise, given that he’s a tall guy (6’3) with long arms and legs, so he can hit you from a distance. He managed to out-strike Michael “Venom” Page last June, a guy who’s famous for his incredible kickboxing skills.
If the UFC 310 co-main event turns into a boxing match, we think Garry will do fine. But what if Rakhmonov takes the fight to the ground? We don’t know really what might happen in that case as Garry’s never fought against such an elite grappler.
Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry UFC 310 Prediction
Both fighters have incredible records, and both wish to stay undefeated. This is why you can expect both of them to take this fight seriously and give all they’ve got. The result of this is that the fight will probably last until the final bell, after which the judges will decide the winner.
So, who will it be? Even though the UFC odds are heavily favoring Rakhmonov, we do think Garry has what it takes to stage an upset.
Pick: Ian Machado Garry
